February, 2012:

More Money Swag Music

“The Motto” started off with us getting inspired by the original verison by Drake and lil Wayne. So we listened to the beat several times, Justin created the hook and we began to write our verse. The featured Emcees on the track are Kimani Roberts, Darius T. Word, Justin Van Putten, Malik Manmohan, Isaiah Gomez, and Klarisa Dejesus. Artists in MSM that are not on the track are Patrick Owusu. Many many thanks to our music engineer and teacher Emi.

Walt Whitman & Erasmus Mid-Year Screening

We hosted our fellow BCCP students from Erasmus Hall Campus today to showcase video work from both the middle schoolers and the high schoolers.  And, as a special treat, MSM (Money Swag Music) performed FIVE of their hits!  It was a great day!

BCCP Annual Ice Skating Adventure!

It’s that time of year again…for slipping, sliding, learning and laughing, a lot.  Check out some highlights from the annual ice skating trip to Bryant Park — we had a blast!

Reel Talk (On the Blue Screen)

For the past few weeks, the Walt Whitman Video Club has been up in the “secret” fourth floor tv studio, utilizing the blue screen. We love it up there! It feels like a real production studio. Since we have been doing so many stop-motion videos, we watched a real Hollywood stop-motion animation, The Corpse Bride by Tim Burton. Here, Claire and Jailene review the film and Claire also gives an exclusive director’s interview on her film, The Pink House- all while learning about blue screening!

Maya Azucena @ MS 246!

Last week we had the pleasure of meeting Maya Azucena, grammy award winning artist and cultural ambassador.  After a performance, Maya talked about her life, from growing up in Flatbush to touring the world with her band.  Some of our own students performed their original songs created with Mr. Emi in music lab (Kimani, Darius, Justin and Klarisa, aka MSM, and Miah, Tracy and Christine).  We talked about stage presence and confidence, had a vocal workshop and a girl’s talk about believing in yourself.  It was a beautiful day!
